Fetal doppler guide for expecting mothers

A fetal doppler is a handheld device that uses ultrasound to detect your baby's heartbeat. It can be a wonderful way to bond with your baby between prenatal appointments.

When Can You Hear the Heartbeat?

Most women can hear their baby's heartbeat with a doppler starting around week 12-14, though it may take until week 16-20 for some. Don't worry if you can't find it immediately — practice and patience are key.

How to Use a Fetal Doppler

  1. Lie down in a quiet, comfortable place
  2. Apply ultrasound gel to your lower abdomen
  3. Place the doppler probe gently on your abdomen
  4. Move slowly, listening for the heartbeat
  5. A normal fetal heartbeat ranges from 120-160 beats per minute

What a Healthy Heartbeat Sounds Like

A normal fetal heartbeat sounds like a galloping horse — much faster than your own. If you can't find it after 10-15 minutes, don't panic. Try again later or at your next prenatal appointment.

The Nurtura360™ kit includes a fetal doppler so you can monitor your baby's heartbeat from the comfort of your home. Get your kit.
