Second Trimester Guide
Navigating the second trimester: monitoring wellness, fetal development, and staying active during weeks 13-27 of pregnancy.
The second trimester (weeks 13-27) is often called the "golden trimester" — many women feel more energetic and experience fewer symptoms. This is a great time to focus on your wellness and prepare for your baby's arrival.
Fetal Development Milestones
Your baby is growing rapidly during this period:
- By week 16: You may start to feel the first flutters of movement
- By week 20: You can hear the baby's heartbeat with a doppler
- By week 24: The baby can respond to sounds and movement
Wellness Monitoring
Regular monitoring helps catch any issues early:
- Track your blood pressure weekly
- Monitor your weight gain
- Use urinalysis strips to check for UTIs
- Listen to your baby's heartbeat with a fetal doppler
Staying Active
Exercise is safe and beneficial during the second trimester. Try walking, swimming, prenatal yoga, or low-impact aerobics. Avoid contact sports and activities with a high risk of falling.
